It’s Really Funny, and You’re Looking for Something to Watch

“That woman can knock a drink back like a Kennedy at a wake for another Kennedy, but I’ll be damned if she doesn’t get shit done!”

Princess Carolyn, Bojack Horseman

So if you haven’t seen Bojack Horseman, which I assume you haven’t since you’re reading this, you really should. So first off, it is absolutely hilarious. There are a wide range of jokes, theres a bit of something for everyone. Some of the comedy stems from the absolute absurdity, and some from the actual dialogue. I mean at one point they find the actually not dead J.D. Salinger hiding in a tandem bicycle store.

It isn’t Just Nonsense Though

“I don’t know what to tell you. I’m happy for the first time in my life and I’m not gonna feel bad about it. It takes a long time to realize how truly miserable you are and even longer to see it doesn’t have to be that way. Only after you give up everything can you begin to find a way to be happy.”

Fuzzy Whiskers, Bojack Horseman

The show deals with so many issues its almost difficult to keep track of all of them. They talk about depression, politics, addiction, sexuality, happiness, love, fracking, sexual assault, illness, racism, family, and even farming. So if you care about or identify with any of those, this show has something for you.

As Mentioned Before, It Isn’t Just a Comedy

“There is no shame in dying for nothing. That’s why most people die.”

Henry Winkler, Bojack Horseman

Half the time, there is some zany adventure going on, usually either Todd or Mr. Peanutbutter are doing something ridiculous, but sometimes theres something really serious. Like Bojack trying to make amends with his old friends, a character trying to deal with another miscarriage, or even dealing with the loss of a child. It really is a good show, and the darker parts only make it even better. It’s a drama, comedy, romance, and almost every other genre.

There Are Some Really Odd Episodes

…..

Season 3 Fish out of Water, Bojack Horseman

So there are two episodes that really stick out, and are unlike anything I have ever seen in a TV show. In season 3, there’s an episode where there is absolutely no dialogue except for twice at the very end. I mean theres a couple grunts or nonsensical sounds but mostly, its just music. The other episode is “Free Churro” in season 5. This episode has only one character alone on screen talking for the entire episode. A single character talking without any real conflict or action at all. theres a few others that follow very untraditional formats but you’ll have to watch to find out about those.

There Are 5 Seasons and More on the Way

“Yeah, I ate them all in one sitting because I have no self-control and I hate myself.”

Bojack Horseman

There are 5 seasons 61 episodes, and it is quite binge-worthy. There is a confirmed next season and I am ready to do what I always do when a new one comes out…. Binge watch the hell out of it. I push through Every. Single. Episode. until I have seen them all. It’s not just me either, I’ve talked a few friends into watching it, and they always have done the same. You will not regret spending an entire weekend laughing, crying, and generally being existentially torn with Bojack Horseman.
